I’ve been fixing PS3’s privately for a couple of years now. I notice that most people seem to experience the same PS3 problems so I decided to write just a general troubleshooting site as a resource for you to save yourselves some money and learn how to fix common PS3 problems by yourself. Although I have a lot of hands on experience doing PS3 repair, I am by no means claiming to be a PS3 know-it-all. I’m just sharing my experiences so I can help others that come across similar problems so if any of this information is incorrect, unclear, boring, etc. please tell me and I will correct it, add to it, take away from it, etc.
A quick word of warning: If you’re having PS3 problems, DO NOT OPEN YOUR PS3 UNLESS YOU ARE EXPERIENCED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS & ARE CONFIDENT YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Opening your PS3 case will VOID YOUR WARRANTY immediately. The warranty is only valid for 1 year from the date of purchase shown on the HARD COPY RECEIPT. From my experiences, it was a MUST to provide the ORIGINAL receipt in order for Sony to fix my PS3 free of charge otherwise it will cost $150 +.
If you can’t provide the original receipt or if it’s past the one year mark, then you have a choice. You can attempt to fix the PS3 problems yourself at the cost of voiding the warranty as soon as you remove the warranty seal. The upside of this is that you will possibly save yourself a ton of time bypassing Sony’s PS3 support line, waiting for them to send you a shipping box, shipping your PS3 back to them in the box back and then paying $150+ dollars for something you could have fixed for much less or even FREE. If you’re going to spend the money you can save yourself the trouble and just purchase a cheap PS3.
